The Phantom Tollbooth is my favorite book for so many reasons but one is the illustrations. Laura did an amazing job putting this together. The text says “there are no wrong roads to anywhere.” and my Mom’s initials are hidden in the tree.
This tattoo was primarily done by Laura Yaskell at Rebirth by Vinnie in Anchorage, AK with exception to the text that was done by Ron Jackon at Slim Jones Ink in Kodiak, AK.
This incredible tattoo was done by Paolino at Rising Dragon Tattoo, in NYC.
Words cannot describe how happy I am with this tattoo parlor, artist, and tattoo itself.
If you are ever in the New York area, and are looking for a beautiful tattoo, look no further than Rising Dragon.
Since I was 14, I’ve always loved Salvador Dali. This is taken from his painting entitled “Three Women With The Heads of Flowers Finding The Skin of A Grand Piano On The Beach.”
Being a musician/piano player, this painting always stood out to me. Taking artistic liberty, I asked Paolino to combine the woman holding the piano, and then have her waving as if to say “goodbye,” like the woman in the middle of the portrait. My life, I’ve thought, was always beautiful, but very imperfect. And it a lot of ways, fucked up. The imperfection and surrealism of this Dali piece reminded me a lot of my own life. A beautiful, and at times, melting mess.
Her waving goodbye symbolizes that I can start letting go of the past, and move forward. By getting it tattooed on me, though, will always remind me to cherish what has happened to me, remember it, but to let it go. And most importantly, to always express that through my art.
Paolino, folks at Rising Dragon, I’m immensely happy. And I hope if you live in New York, you take advantage of the fact that this tattoo shop exists here.-RF
